Android can install APK files obtained outside Google Play, but the exact menu names vary by Android version and phone maker. Only install files you trust, and keep Android security protections enabled.
1. Download the APK file
Download the APK or MOD APK you intend to install and confirm that the app name, version and Android requirement match the page you selected.
2. Allow installs from the app you used to download it
On newer Android versions, permission is normally granted per source app. Open Settings and search for Install unknown apps, then select the browser or file manager you are using and allow that app to install APK files. Menu names can differ between Samsung, Pixel, Xiaomi and other devices.
On older Android versions, the setting may appear as a general Unknown sources option under Security. If your phone does not show either wording, use Settings search rather than changing unrelated security options.
3. Open the APK and review the install prompt
Open the downloaded file from your browser or file manager. Android will show an installation prompt. Review the app name and requested permissions before continuing.
4. Finish installation and remove unnecessary permission
After installation, you can turn off the browser/file-manager permission to install unknown apps if you do not need it regularly. You do not need to disable Google Play Protect or other device security features to follow this guide.
Common installation problems
“App not installed”
This can happen when an existing copy was signed differently, the APK is incomplete, storage is low, or the build is incompatible with the device. If an existing app must be removed, remember that uninstalling can erase local app data unless it is backed up or synced.
“There was a problem parsing the package”
The file may be damaged, incomplete, built for a newer Android version, or otherwise incompatible. Recheck the Android requirement and download the file again from the intended source.
The file is XAPK, APKS or needs extra game data
Those formats can require different installation steps from a single APK. Follow title-specific instructions only when the game page provides verified extra-file requirements; do not assume every APK needs OBB or additional data.
MOD APK note
A MOD APK can use a different signing key from the official app. That may prevent an in-place update over an existing installation. Do not remove an existing app solely to force an install unless you understand the data-loss and account implications.
